The Turf Commander recently embarked on a transformative project to completely redesign the Veterans' Memorial Garden in Uptown Charlotte, NC. Tasked with creating a space that was both visually appealing and highly durable, the team focused on blending aesthetic sophistication with lasting functionality. Central to the redesign were the installation of a Carolina Sapphire fountain and a majestic 3-ball ligustrum, which serve as striking focal points that enhance the garden’s serene atmosphere.

A significant challenge involved the removal of an extensive amount of soil—nearly 9,000 pounds—to prepare the site properly for new installations and improved landscaping features. This labor-intensive effort allowed the team to reshape the garden’s foundation, improving drainage and soil conditions essential for sustaining plant health and the structural longevity of hardscape elements. The careful planning ensured the garden would perform well under various weather conditions while maintaining its visual appeal.

Incorporating the Carolina Sapphire fountain introduced a calming water element that adds movement and sound, vitalizing the space and encouraging visitors to linger in reflection. Meanwhile, the 3-ball ligustrum, known for its dense, sculptural form, was chosen for its elegant appearance and resilience. Together, they create a harmonious centerpiece, balancing water and plant life in a way that honors the memorial’s solemn purpose.

Now, three years after the redesign, the Veterans' Memorial Garden continues to look vibrant and inviting.
